After months of thinking I was finally going to get my family out of the financial hole. Out of the depressed era after both my mother and I where hospitalized for weeks a piece. After so much crap, things where looking up. Then it happened...
Two weeks ago my mother fell ill the day before CoastCon 35. She was planned on attending the weekend convention with me. Her first one in decades. Then signs of phemonia appeared. Sent her to the doctor and was sent home when they couldn't find a real illness. It was deemed a chest cold and told she'd take meds for a few days and just 'work it out' of her.
Not even a week later she was back at the doctors office. Twice as bad, breathing shallow and hard. It was then she was hospitalized again. Phemonia. Again. Several days, she's starting to look okay. Then suddenly her shoulder starts with intense pain. The doctors begin tests again. Suddenly we find her lymph nodes are inflamed. A new virus is apparent. Yet, white blood counts are still normal. More tests are done, but her breathing is beginning to worsen again.
After countless more tests. A broncoscope. And biospy samples are sent in hopes to find out what is going on. Yesterday morning everything came back. Cancer. Not just any cancer. Lung cancer. Where the CT scans have found it, it's large and in charge. From the middle of her chest, across the top of her right lung and into the shoulder. Test are needed before treatments can be determined, although surgery is thrown out the window in seconds.
Today she was supposed to undergo the tests. These where to determine what stage the cancer is in. How large the actual cancer take over is, if it's spreading and if so to where. This did not happen. As soon as they attempted to lay her flat she began to loose the ability to breath again. Chemo has to be started.
To top it all of. My aunt is diagnosed with three tumors and colon cancer just the day before my mother. Now their both in for the fight, and the family is in for a battle of our own. Here's to betting that glass is half full and they both make it. Because, I know I won't be letting either take a break with this mess.
